Due to the busy sounds of early morning traffic, we were up and ready to leave Lusaka, heading for Mkushi, where our friends Carls and Gregg are living. It's about a 5 hour drive from Lusaka and Chris and I are familiar with the route as we had done it last month on our way up to Kenya. The situation was not ideal that we were now driving back north and due to the bad road conditions we hadnt cycled too much. If we had been able to get through the South Luangwa National Park, we would've cycled down to Mkushi and taken two days rest on the farm. However, now that our route had changed completely and not having anticipated that we might not be able to cycle on the roads, we had now caught up with our rest days. I have been feeling anxious about not cycling but we would all rather be in Mkushi for an extra few days with our friends anyways, especially because Kirsty (Carls sister) so happens to be visiting as well.

We arrived at lunch time to all the cows and the sheep giving us a warm friendly welcome and Todd on his motorbike zooming up to open the gate for us. My heart immediately filled with joy being back at Mwana Farm and seeing the Stones and it was such an added bonus that Kirst was also here! The afternoon was busy with lots of catching up, lots of laughs and many drinks shared. Gregg and the two boys had prepared a few mbaula's for us outside. Mbaula's are a typical Zambian tin bucket which is filled with charcoal that can be used for cooking or just for warmth. As we sat on the stoep, the cold creeping in, we huddled around the mbaula's, continuing our chatter and the sun started setting over the farm, a beautiful kaleidoscope of patterns in the horizon.

Carls had been slaving away in the kitchen, and the smells of delicious lamb curry fulled the house. We had the most fun, happy evening around the dinner table. Kirst and Carls are my dads very good friend, Michi Venters two daughters who we have grown up with, so being with them is like being with family. We were so comfortable and felt so at home. With our tummy's full and endulging into chocolate brownies Carls made for pudding, we got into a toasty warm bed, appreciating being in a house for the first time in a long time.
