After a freezing night in the tent, we woke up to the dew dripping through the fly sheet onto our heads. The morning temperature was below 10 degrees, making it very hard to get up. We spent the day in the campsite cleaning everything! Madam and the trailer and literally everything inside was covered in dust from the off road trekking we've been doing. Dad's first day on tour, we had him hosing down all our things. Dad brought my bike fully repaired, thanks to Brett at Valencia who in support of our cycle trip, fixed my bike for nothing.

Through facebook we met Paul Bonekamp, the GM of PEP stores in Zambia, is an avid cyclist and lives in Lusaka and has been so keen to join our trip. He invited us to stay with him and his wife, Cathy, tonight and will cycle with us towards Zim. After doing a thorough clean up, spending the whole morning scrubbing, we met up with Paul who showed us the way to his house. We arrived to a stunning house with Cathy, giving us a friendly welcome. The couple, who have never met us, opened up their home to us, made us feel so comfortable and had prepared the most delicious creamy pasta with braai'd steak. Paul was over the moon to be joining the K2K team, his enthusiasm was motivating and reaffirming why we doing this. Paul gave us a short briefing of our route tomorrow, explaining how we going to be climbing an escarpment that the notorious Elephant Epic race does. As the escarpment is dangerous and only a 4x4 would make it through, Paul had very kindly arranged for Ford Lusaka who sponsored us a vehicle as well as a driver to second us tomorrow. Cathy, who also loves cycling and has just been so warm and hospitable, is having such FOMO for tomorrows ride. Now that Paul had filled us with fear and slightly nervous for our climb tomorrow, we gulped more wine and got into our warm beds that Cathy had very nicely prepared for us as well as having the best hot shower ever!!

Meet Paul and Cathy, the most incredible couple

Paul officially a K2K team member
