12 May Sunday
For the last time for the next 2 and a half months we had the opportunity to sleep in and did we make the most of this, by only waking up at 9 am - yay!!! Chris cooked up a mean breakfast and we then tackled on the cleaning of the trailer. There was dust everywhere and on everything. We cleaned the bikes which have now been sitting in the rack for 12 days, we really had to give a good scrub and waxed on the chain lube and the bikes were up and running ready for Tuesday. The excitement for our trip and the nerves started kicking in. We had now had a wonderful holiday, really just spending quality time together as a couple and seen and done some amazing adventures, but we were now ready for our cycle trip.
After we sorted out the bikes, cleaned out the car and trailer, we headed to Westlands, the other side of Nairobi to visit Pauline and Dinesh, Chris's aunty who also resides in Nairobi. We went through what Bruce called a quiet day in the traffic and got to Paulines house 45 mins later and only being 16 km away. She has a beautiful property overlooking a forest of trees, large lush green plants and birds humming in the treetops. We had a drink and then made our way to a shopping centre nearby with a large food market, with options from all over the world - the agony of choice. Chris and Bruce went for the Italian pasta, I had Chinese fried rice and Pauline and Dinesh shared Mexican tacos. We then got a table in the food garden and were able to share a variety of meals, all having our own choice. I've experienced something like this in Cape Town but coming from Hoedspruit, this was still exciting and new to me. We spent the afternoon catching up and chatting away, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere.
We headed home after 6ish, had leftovers for dinner and just chilled out waiting eagerly for the full K2K squad to arrive. Mabula, Bruces trusted driver arrived safely just after midnight with Kathryn, Tim and Pippa :D Erick, Chris dad had also arrived this evening, however, he is staying with Pauline and tomorrow we will meet him. After catching up and the excitement wared off we got into bed, needing some sleep for our first RhinoArt lessons tomorrow.
